Transcending Masculinity
Transcending Masculinity is a project I worked on for around 6 months. The question I wanted to answer was "how do the traditional standards of masculinity that we uphold as a society make it difficult and nearly impossible for transgender men to exist as they are?" Lengthy, I know. Through photographs of a variety of men, some trans, some cis, and some are self portraits, I show how different parts of the "ideal" male body that make me insecure, and the juxtaposition between trans joy, and dysphoria. This collection is a window into the trans experience, and is meant to show how we do not need to live by what society deems as necessary to be who we are.
